• 10/3/19 "Horizons" featured at Studio 300 Digital Art and Music Festival

    On October 3-4, the Studio 300 Digital Art and Music Festival will take place at Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. My "Horizons" video will be on display in one of the wings of the Coleman/Mitchell Fine Arts Center between 10am and 7pm on both days.   • 9/20/19 Opening Reception for Bluegrass Transplants @ Lexington Art League

    The group exhibition Bluegrass Transplants has been on view at Lexington Art League for a couple weeks, but the opening reception is being held tonight (9/20/19) at 5:30pm. This exhibition features many local artists, all of which have moved to the Bluegrass region of Kentucky from somewhere else. My "Horizons" video is on display next to some very expensive bourbon barrel guitars. The exhibition runs until 10/4/19.

  • 2/26/19 Closing Reception for "Horizons" Tonight

    The "Horizons" video series has been on view at The Sleeper throughout February and tonight a closing reception is being held on the event of its final screening in the space, beginning at 6pm. The exhibition has also been included in SF Bay Area art blog Journal as a show of note within the region.

  • 1/29/19 Opening Next Week: Horizons @ The Sleeper

    Starting February 5 Dan Solberg's "Horizons" video series will be on view at The Sleeper in San Francisco, CA. The show will hold screenings on Tuesdays (6-8pm) throughout February with a closing reception on February 27 at 6PM. The "Horizons" series features 12 1-3 minute vignettes of abstracted footage recorded within the photo mode of the PlayStation 4 game "Horizon: Zero Dawn."

  • 9/17/18 DED LED Compilation Launch

    Last Wednesday (9/12/18), I, along with a group of writing colleagues, released DED LED, a digital compilation zine of about 50 pieces of writing about videogames and their surrounding culture, originally published on Kill Screen between 2013 and 2016. The compilation is a PDF document, available for free download via itch.io. DED LED was featured in weekly roundups of writing about videogames on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Video Game Deep Cuts, and Critical Distance. DED LED was also the subject of Episode 59 of the Irrational Passions podcast.

  • 4/30/17 Website Redesign and Recent Happenings

    Dansolberg.com has gotten a whole new look for 2017. Art galleries have been reshuffled, new work has been added, and, most notably, Writing and Game Media portfolios have been added to the site navigation. Writing contains links to a selection of freelance work, while Game Media links to a number of media projects (videos, podcasts, presentations, etc) in and around the world of videogames. My CV has been updated to include recent exhibitions, talks, and panels that I have been a part of as well. There are too many things that have occurred since my last News post to recount them all individually, so please explore the newly redesigned dansolberg.com to see what you might have missed.

  • 2/20/14 Opening Friday: Beyond Violet with the Emperor Scorpion @ Des Lee Gallery

    This Friday, Des Lee Gallery in St. Louis, MO hosts the opening of a new art exhibition titled Beyond Violet with the Emperor Scorpion. The show features work by Dan Solberg and several other alumni of the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. An opening reception will be held this Friday from 6-9pm. The exhibition will be on view until March 22.

  • 10/23/13 Opening Tuesday: Dogs of Doubtful Origin @ Peeler Art Center

    This Tuesday the 29th at the Peeler Art Center at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, there will be an opening reception for Dogs of Doubtful Origin, an exhibition by artist/professor Lori Miles featuring new work by Dan Solberg as part of a collaborative nature of the show, along with several other DePauw art school alumni. Doors open at 4:15. A panel featuring all of the collaborating artists will be held the day before, on Monday October 28th at 4:15 in the Peeler Art Center Auditorium.

  • 10/14/13 Opening Tuesday: Doing and Undergoing @ Teachers College, Columbia University

    This Tuesday the 15th at the Teachers College at Columbia University, there will be an opening reception for Doing and Undergoing, featuring new collaborative work between Dan Solberg and Jake Cruzen. Doors open at 5:30 and you will be able to check out iPods to take a video tour of the entire exhibition space as well.

  • 9/9/13 Upcoming Show at Peeler Art Center

    Dan Solberg will be featured in an upcoming collaborative exhibition organized by artist Lori Miles titled Dogs of Doubtful Origin, which is scheduled to open on October 29 at the Peeler Art Center in Greencastle, IN. The show is organized by Miles as a collaborative system between herself and six of her former students, including Mike Treffehn and Jacob Stanley.   • 7/20/13 Now On View: Doing and Undergoing @ Teachers College, Columbia University

    Dan Solberg and Jake Cruzen are showing a new collaborative piece as part of Doing and Undergoing, a series of site-specific installation inside the Teachers College at Columbia University. A formal opening reception as well as supplemental video tour are expected to be scheduled sometime in October. Watch this space for further details. The exhibition will be on view through December 15.

  • 1/28/13 Opening Friday: ad hoc, ad loc and quid pro quo @ Des Lee Gallery

    This Friday, Des Lee Gallery in St. Louis, MO hosts the opening of a new art exhibition titled ad hoc, ad loc and quid pro quo. The show features work by Dan Solberg, Gina Grafos, and several other recent graduates of the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. An opening reception will be held this Friday from 6-9pm.   • 9/6/12 Interview at Other People's Pixels

    Other People's Pixels, the company that hosts this site, conducted an interview with Dan Solberg over email for their blog. The interview covers recent work and insights into the studio process and interpretation of those pieces. Click here to read the whole thing.   • 9/1/12 Studio in New York City

    Dan Solberg has relocated to Brooklyn, New York and setup shop with a new studio space in Red Hook along with fellow artist Jake Cruzen. The studio is located at 248 Creamer Street.

  • 4/28/12 Artist Talk Today @ ROYGBIV

    For the close of Dan Solberg / Jacob Tonski at ROYGBIV in Columbus, Ohio, both artists will give brief talks about their work and then the floor will be opened for questions. Attending the talk is free; it begins at 2:30PM. The show will be uninstalled following the conclusion of the talk.

    This Saturday the 7th at ROYGBIV in Columbus, Ohio is the opening of a new exhibition titled Dan Solberg / Jacob Tonski. The show contains a new suite of artworks from Dan Solberg, inspired by the line "the silence and smoothness of luxury." There will be an artist talk on the final day of the exhibition on April 28.

    This Friday the 27th in St. Louis is the opening of a new exhibition, put on by The Transients, titled For Rent. The show contains new work by Dan Solberg as well as solo works from Jake Cruzen, Gina Grafos, and others. The exhibition will be on view Friday and Saturday at 3224 Indiana Ave, 2nd Floor.

  • 11/11/11 Opening Saturday: 002 @ Favorite Goods

    This Saturday the 12th at Favorite Goods in Los Angeles is the opening of a new exhibition titled 002. The show contains a collaborative installation from Dan Solberg and Jake Cruzen as well as solo works from Cruzen, Matthew Strauss, and Dashiell Manley. The exhibition will be on view through December 3.

  • 9/21/11 (e)merge Art Fair This Week

    New works by Dan Solberg will be on view at the (e)merge Art Fair this week (Sept 22-25) at Capitol Skyline Hotel in Washington, DC. My exhibition includes several photographic prints and a sculpture made out of Ikea furniture, a living plant and CDs. Images will be posted on dansolberg.com after the show is taken down.

  • 7/30/11 (e)merge Art Fair Coming Up

    This Fall, Dan Solberg will be showing new work at the (e)merge Art Fair in Washington, DC at the Capitol Skyline Hotel. The fair runs from September 22 - 25. Stay tuned for further updates and details.

    This Friday the 10th the Low Road Gallery in Greencastle, Indiana is hosting its season opening exhibition Scenes, containing new work by Dan Solberg and Gina Grafos.   • 8/15/10 Upcoming Shows in St. Louis and Greencastle

    Dan Solberg will be exhibiting new works in two duo shows this Fall. The first, titled "Scenes" with Gina Grafos will be opening Friday the 10th of September at the Low Road Gallery in Greencastle, Indiana. The second, titled "Tiny Content" with John Early will be opening Saturday October 9th at the Snowflake Gallery in St. Louis. More specific details about each will be presented here as each of them approaches.

    New works by Dan Solberg and Jake Cruzen will be on exhibition at a new gallery, Craig Elmer Modern, with an opening reception on Saturday February 20 from 7-11PM. The gallery is located at 3194 South Grand Avenue.
